OSX Install CD

All current Village Tronic products are "Ready for Panther"

Milan - October 24th 2003 - A few hours prior to the official release of Panther, Pacific Standard Time, Village Tronic is releasing information and updates to assist its user base in the migration to the new Apple operating system.

All current Village Tronic hardware is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3. Nevertheless, Mac OS X 10.3 introduces quite a few changes that should be taken into account.

VTBook

Mac OS X 10.3 introduces many improvements over version 10.2. The VTBook driver 1.1 is supporting Panther as well as Jaguar.

We are actively working in collaboration with Apple to be able to offer a long awaited new feature to VTBook users using Panther: Hot Plug.

We recommend our users to not experiment hot plug yet. More information will be released soon.

Please keep monitored our VTBook FAQ pages for news on this subject, or use our tech support form and ask to be informed as soon as a solution becomes available.

New VTBook installer, compatible with Panther (10.3.0) and Jaguar (10.2.8), with 2D and 3D drivers, is available for download in the download area.

MPDD Pro

MPDD Pro standard drivers 1.1 and BIOS 1.3 work correctly under Panther. An installation problem can occur using the driver installer, involving the privileges for some MPDD Pro kernel extensions not being set correctly. A solution is to run the script available here after the driver installation and then restarting the system. An updated installer will be released soon.

The script is available in the download area.

MPDD+

MPDD+ is a discontinued product, but still it is fully Panther compatible without any special remark as long as the card has been upgraded to NDRV 1.6. The upgrade tool is available in the download area.

VTBook supplies more than simple video mirroring - it is a complete additional Display. Windows can be dragged from the Notebook display to the external monitor, seamlessly. For PowerBooks without a DVI connector VTBook is the only way to connect the high end ADC Displays.

PowerBook users can get as high as 1920 X 1440 resolution. VTBook's independent 32MB of 266MHz DDR memory ensures no impact on the PowerBooks performance even when running in highest Display modes. There are few competitive products such the Margi Display-To-Go PC Card (SRP $224). They support only 4MB of Video Memory and much less resolutions. VTBook is the only CardBus graphics card that offers both VGA and DVI-I in one product and runs on a modern OS.

Beta Versions of the Windows XP drivers for VTBook are available at the Village Tronic website http://www.villagetronic.com for download and will be shipping before November. VTBook supports Windows XP Home and Professional. Windows 2000 will be available in November.

Introducing VTBook:
The first 32MB DVI graphics card for notebook computers

Abstract

Hannover - CeBIT - March 13th, 2002:Village Tronic is announcing at CeBIT 2002 its brand new CardBus graphics card. Targeted for notebook users, VTBookDD makes it possible to connect a digital or analog high-end second display, converting a Notebook into a full Desktop Workstation, driving two displays simultaneously

Press release

Hannover - CeBIT - March 13th, 2002: Village Tronic is announcing at CeBIT 2002 its brand new CardBus graphics card. Targeted for notebook users, VTBookDD makes it possible to connect a digital or analog high-end second display, converting a Notebook into a full Desktop Workstation, driving two displays simultaneously.

People have recently been discovering the joy of ever smaller notebook computers. The more compact they are the more comfortable it is to carry them everywhere we go. However, the majority of the time the Notebook is used on our workdesk at the office. In this situation, after hours of working, many users prefer a larger display.

VTBookDD (short for Village Tronic Book Desktop Doubler) is the ultimate solution: It plugs into your CardBus PC Card slot and allows the connection of high resolution displays, both digital (DVI) or analog (VGA). Thanks to 32MB of memory it supports even the highest resolutions in maximum color depth (16 millions of colors) with very fast refresh rates to ensure maximum comfort. The display controlled by the VTBookDD is a true second display. This means that it offers additional display space for your use. You can move and arrange windows from the Notebook's display to be shown on the display being driven by the VTBookDD. Display-Mirroring, primarily for use in presentations, is also supported.

No other device will impact the way you work like a second display. Use more display space. Forget about workarounds such as closing and reopening multiple windows or zooming and scrolling simply because your Notebook display is too small. Keep palettes, your email-client and other applications continuously open to stay focused on your main project window. This enables you to concentrate on the project and not on navigating to squeeze out display space.

Trident Microsystems and Village Tronic Partner To Target Apple Market

Complete Solutions For Every Monitor

Sunnyvale, California, July 20, 2001: Trident Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: TRID), a pioneer in 3D graphics solutions for Windows-based personal computers, and Village Tronic (http://www.villagetronic.com), a growing supplier of dual-display technology for the Macintosh, today announced a partnership to enter into the Apple Macintosh market space with products targeted at both the notebook and desktop platforms.

"We have been searching for a semiconductor partner who can provide leading-edge graphics solutions for the fast changing and demanding personal computer market. Changing the chipset is a strategic long-term decision that requires a strong partner with proven graphics design success and solid financial resources," said Hubert Neumeier, president and CEO of Village Tronic.

"Trident is very well-known for their unique ability to deliver mainstream performance, 3D graphics solutions with a much smaller chip size, which always results in a much lower power dissipation and lower manufacturing cost," continued Mr. Neumeier, "Their innovative optimization to achieve a balanced design with respect to power, feature set, performance, image quality and cost fit perfectly with Village Tronic's goal of bringing superior dual-display graphics solutions that connect any modern display to any AGP, PCI or PCMCIA enabled Macintosh. It is for these reasons that we decided to partner with Trident Microsystems."

"Leading OEM notebook manufacturers such as Toshiba and Hewlett-Packard have chosen Trident's 3D graphics chips because we offer the most well-balanced design at a great value," said Michael Economy, vice president of US OEM Sales at Trident Microsystems. "Our strategy of delivering a competitive level of functionality and performance at a much lower power consumption and lower cost is the hallmark of our engineering capability, the foundation of our continued leadership in notebook and the fuel for our aggressive push into desktop graphics in the future."

"I have been an Apple enthusiast for many years and I'm really excited about being able to connect my 22 inch Cinema Display to my PowerBook and add a second 17 inch Apple flat panel to my PowerMac," said Mr. Le Nguyen, assistant vice president of graphics marketing at Trident Microsystems. "We are very pleased that Trident's well-balanced graphics solutions will now enable Village Tronic to deliver several new and exciting products to the Mac market such as the VTBook graphics expansion card for notebooks and VTDualDE which will be offered as a true dual DVI-I or dual ADC graphics card for desktops all at very compelling prices".

Village Tronic develops dual-display graphics add-on cards for the Apple market utilizing Trident's 3D graphics chips. All new graphics cards announced at Macworld 2001 in New York employ Trident chips and include the fastest PCMCIA graphics expansion card for notebooks as well as the most flexible dual-display AGP/PCI add-in card for desktop featuring VGA, DVI-I and ADC interfaces. Village Tronic products are tailored to meet the fundamental needs of the creative professional.

"The creative professional has technical needs different from the standard 3D graphics game cards being produced today," said Mr. Neumeier. "We understand the importance of being able to offer a more fine tuned set of resolutions to balance a large screen size over the readability of text. By selecting the maximum set of refresh rate choices, the creative professional can get the utmost out of the display they already have."

MPDD+ is the First Mac OS X Graphics Card Designed for the Secondary Display

NEW YORK - July 18th, 2001 - Village Tronic today at MacWorld New York announced MPDD+, the first Mac OS X graphic card that is designed from ground up to drive a second analogue display.

"Village Tronic is the first company to introduce a graphics card specifically tailored to drive a second display," said Hubert Neumeier, Village Tronic's CEO. "The features for a secondary graphics card are quite different than a primary graphics card, 3D and DVD become unimportant, as these are used on the primary display. Instead compatibility to another graphics card is most important. Due to the Macintosh's built in support for multiple displays and our own unique Displays Sense Logic, MPDD+ is very easy to connect to any analogue display."

MPDD+ is made for creative professionals. Almost every web design, video and graphics package these days seem to have a multitude of palettes and panels, so it's good sense to increase your workspace. MPPD+ makes it a snap to add another display to your computer, spreading your desktop across two screens and reducing clutter.

The MPDD+ continues the award winning design of MPDD. It introduces new features like being the first PCI graphics card to support the deep sleep mode introduced with the PowerMac G4 AGP computers. Village Tronic's unique "Screendoubler" provides a panning mode that offers a virtual desktop larger than the screen size of your display. Accessing this additional desktop workspace is a snap, as it scrolls automatically when moving the mouse to the border of your display, unveiling any open palettes you have stored there. Future driver updates can now be simply made through ndrv technology.

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
MPDD+ is expected to be available in August for a suggested retail price of $99 (US).
