How do I enter the registration code?
- Make sure you installed VT MultiDisplay
- You'll
find its icon in the taskbar, on the right. It's a
little Village phoenix over one or four little blue
screens.
- Right click on the icon and choose "About"
- Click
on "Enter Registration Code"
Is VT MultiDisplay compatible with Windows Vista?
Do not install versions earlier than 2.7.1 on Windows
Vista: installation of the mirroring feature will fail,
and after each reboot Windows will try to install a
driver used by the mirroring feature, which will again
fail.
Version 2.7.1 will mostly work fine on Windows Vista,
with the following limitations:
- The mirroring feature is not available
- When using
the Aero theme, the window buttons added by UltraMon
aren't visible
if a monitor is positioned to the left of the primary
monitor, the wallpaper won't display correctly
- VT MultiDisplay
taskbars don't fully match the look of the Windows
taskbar
Improved Vista compatibility is planned for
the next major version: 3.0. We're working on it!
Smart Taskbar: missing taskbar or taskbar
shows tasks from wrong monitor
To adjust the Smart
Taskbar configuration, right-click an VT MultiDisplay
taskbar to display the configuration menu. 'Add Taskbar
for' is used to add a new taskbar for a monitor, 'Show
Tasks from' is used to specify from which monitors the
taskbar will show tasks.
To let VT MultiDisplay create a new default configuration for
the Smart Taskbar (one taskbar per monitor):
- close VT MultiDisplay (VT MultiDisplay menu > Close)
- open regedit.exe, the registry editor
- go to the registry key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime
Soft\UltraMon\Smart Taskbar' and set the value DefaultConfigNumMons
to 0
- delete the registry key 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime
Soft\UltraMon\Smart Taskbar\Taskbars'
- restart VT MultiDisplay using the VT MultiDisplay icon in Start
menu > Programs
Configuration: advanced registry settings
The following
settings can only be configured by editing the registry
directly using regedit.exe. For the change to take
effect, VT MultiDisplay needs to be restarted after changing
a setting.
• Hide the system tray icon for non-admin
users
To hide the VT MultiDisplay system tray icon for users who aren't system administrators,
set the Hide Systray Icon for Non-Admins value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Realtime
Soft\UltraMon to 1. Please note that users can still make configuration changes
directly in the registry, to prevent this, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime
Soft\UltraMon and subkeys need to be made read-only.
This setting is ignored on Windows 98/Me.
• Use operating system language instead of
user-specified language
By default, VT MultiDisplay will use the language specified by the user under Options > General.
To always use the current operating system language instead (if a language
pack is installed for all available languages), clear the Language value
under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon.
• Hide the Smart Taskbar menu's Refresh option
To hide this menu option, set the Show Refresh Menu Option under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime
Soft\UltraMon\Smart Taskbar to 0.
• Change the wallpaper folders
The location of the personal and shared wallpaper folders is stored in the
registry and can be changed:
My Wallpapers folder: Wallpaper Directory value under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime
Soft\UltraMon\Wallpaper
Shared Wallpapers folder: All Users Wallpaper Directory value under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\Wallpaper
• Change the shell shortcuts folder
When a Windows shortcut is customized by changing settings on the custom
VT MultiDisplay tabs, VT MultiDisplay creates a special VT MultiDisplay shortcut in the shell
shortcuts folder. To change the location of this folder, edit the Shell
Shortcut Directory value under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Realtime
Soft\UltraMon\Shortcuts. This folder should be accessible to all users
of the system.
• Show Desktop delay when dragging an item
to an empty area of the Smart Taskbar
When dragging an item to an empty area of the taskbar, the desktop will be
shown after the mouse has hovered over the same area for a short time. The
default is half a second for Windows XP and later, and 2 seconds for earlier
systems. To change the delay, edit the Show Desktop Hover Time value
under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Realtime Soft\UltraMon\Smart Taskbar. The
value is in milliseconds, 1 second = 1000 milliseconds.
Troubleshooting: disabling background
applications
Do the following to temporarily disable
background applications that aren't part of the system:
If you are using Windows 98/Me/XP or later: start msconfig.exe,
select the Startup tab and disable all applications that
aren't part of the system except VT MultiDisplay. On Windows
XP or later, also select the Services tab, check 'Hide
All Microsoft Services', then disable all remaining services.
If you are using Windows 2000: download a startup manager,
for example the freely available Startup
Control Panel. Use the startup manager to disable
all applications (except VT MultiDisplay) that aren't part of
the system. To disable a 3rd party service, open Control
Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, double-click
the service you want to disable, then set the Startup
type to 'Disabled'.
You will need to restart your system for the changes
to take effect.
Troubleshooting: disabling VT MultiDisplay
To disable VT MultiDisplay,
delete the VT MultiDisplay shortcut in Start menu > Programs > Startup.
This way VT MultiDisplay will no longer start automatically. You can also do this
in safe mode (press F8 during system startup, then select Safe Mode from the
menu).
If you are using Windows 2000/XP or later: the VT MultiDisplay
mirror driver (used for the mirroring feature) will still
get loaded, even if VT MultiDisplay itself doesn't get started.
To prevent the mirror driver from getting loaded, go
to Control Panel and open the System applet, select the
Hardware tab and click on Device Manager. Select View\Show
hidden devices from the menu, then disable the UltraMon
Display Mirror Driver from the Display Mirror Driver
group. You can also do this in safe mode.
